Steve Marso, MD

Steve is a trained interventional cardiologist, published author, clinical outcomes researcher, and biopharmaceutical executive – a career at the intersection of cardiovascular medicine, and obesity.

Before Verdiva, he served at Metsera, as co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, until its acquisition by Pfizer in November 2025, helping build the company and advance its next-generation obesity portfolio from concept through clinical development.

Earlier, Steve helped lead the first generation of GLP-1 peptide medicines through cardiovascular outcome trials to FDA approval as Study Chairman of several landmark diabetes and cardiovascular outcome trials with Novo Nordisk. His academic and clinical career includes roles as Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services for HCA Midwest Health, Professor of Medicine and Director of Interventional Cardiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and Clinical Scholar at the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City. He has authored a substantial body of peer-reviewed research and is widely regarded for his expertise in analyzing clinical trials and health data related to GLP-1 therapies for cardiometabolic disease.

Steve began his work in obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular medicine as a resident at the University of Virginia and as a fellow at the Cleveland Clinic. He received a B.S. and an M.D. from the University of Kansas.
